Harry Can......

Read three letter phonetic words, goes against this reading to young is bad really doesnt it, but she seems to want to read and obviously she self chooses to do the letters.

We are still doing montessori and waldorf combined odd combo but working, we use montessori combined with waldorf art craft circle time and lots of out door time.

I spent one day this week defending my home ed idea to Harrys great aunt, what about socilization okay so how much real socialization not stop chatting and get on with your work does a child get during a school day I wonder if anyone has done any reasearch.

My reply well she will do pre school three mornings till five, we do the local home ed group and pottery plus do roll about we are full of activities and very social will that do.

You have a bee in your bonnett about best practice

That what I was told this week by a setting manger because as agency staff I dared to complain about a member of staff behaviour.
Its odd after that day I had I could give up early years for good, unless I was running my own setting because some staff just dont care and of course parents dont see what goes on between eight and six, makes me nervous about sending Harry to pre school really, though they seem great.

Now What?

Uni isnt working out, I am dyslexic and I do learn things well just slowly its annoying because I understand completely and know that this tendon inserts here the muscle belly can be palpated here and its orgin is here but can I name it? Also it very fast paced I expected fast but not this fast we do sixteen hours in uni and I do twelve hours travel on top of that, then we have to do thirty two hours plus of home study its not compatable with family life at all and Harry crys every time I leave now and asks nanna all day whens mummy home? So I may go back to doing supply work.

On an upside I have just done my OU exams started the course in feb and I think I did okay.

Harry is going to pre school playing outdoors and lot and enjoying being read to sdaly I dont seem to be doing much with her.

Ho Hum.

Those bones...

Podiatric Medicine course week one over form forms and more forms now cramming for Monday need to know all bones and ligaments and muscles in foot ankle leg and thigh, I am suffering from brain ache.

Home ed is good.
Harry has done play school for four mornings this week, is now confident with jolly phonics book two and is really enjoying an old set of Disney books Bambi and the like. She has finished a number work book with my mum and can recognise numbers up to ten. She has also danced to the wiggles been to the park and soft play painted done play dough made cakes and jelly phew!

On the down side she has been awake at 5am all of this week, I have to get the train at 6.30am so she wakes to my alarm, ho hum.

Also my maternal grandmother has been diagnosed (by GP) with early dementia and the GP said it will just have to run its course oh really so after my mum eating him almost alive she has been referred to the memory clinic and has had an OT assessment for help at home, let it run its course does that mean put her and grandad in a home and sell their house of sixty years to pay for it I think bloody not!

Oh well back to the bones......

Thinking about a new term.

Well its almost September and I am trying to get my head round what to do for the next 52 weeks.

Things are going well here lots of waldorfy outdoor and arts and crafts type stuff lots of baking mixed in with Montessori manipulative's and lots and lots of books.

I think we have found what fits really now, harry loves the Waldorf type art and craft and I am likely to use either live education or christoperous to support this, but there is no way I can stop her doing formal reading and writing until she is seven as she wants to do both now, so we are using letts get started books to dvelop pencil control while also using sandpaper letters and the insets for design, maths isn't so much of an interest so we are just using number songs and of course learning about the worlds around us reading lots of books and talking, she still loves the tv so i have put limits on it on week days no TV between 9.30 am and 4.30pm so she can watch her two fav programmes Me To! and Finley the little fire engine I have also hidden all the DVDs except for jolly phonics. Mean mummy am I...

So I am thinking of a packaged Waldorf curriculum with Montessori materials and workbooks to support different topics I will also keep one eye on the national curriculum as well but there is no way I will strictly follow it.

I have been thinking our educational philosophy for the LEA is it is guaranteed that next march we will get the forms for Harry to start school in September, I know legal starting age isn't till five but I am sure questions will be asked.

One the upside her play group which is brilliant will keep her until the July after he fifth birthday so she will be five years six weeks old when she leaves which I think will be great for her.

LIFE IN GENERAL.

things are better here my partner has a job still cutting grass for the local council, I have been temping but, I am starting a degree is September, I have now been working with early years children for thirteen years and there is no progression now unless I manage a setting open my own or train as a teacher!!!!!!!!!!!

The idea to do something in health has also been an idea, I did science A levels, have worked on wards to pay for my early years training an I am a st john ambulance member and I have worked as a First Aid Trainer. I applied late for uni and applied for podiatry as a first choice with radiography as my reserve, I was offered a place on a radiography course but just before I sent off my acceptance form, I was offered a place to study podiatry, I am doing the part time route three days a week, so lets see what happens I start on 18Th September.

A muddy Puddle Camp

It good to hear everyone had a nice week, it was such a shame we had to leave for work on sunday but Harry really enjoyed her two nights under canvas, sorry we seemed to just go, I was very sick in the early hours of sunday morning and thought that bring a possible bug to the picnic was very unwise so we left early.

Harry wants to go see all her friends again in the mud, so I think melrose it will be, hopefully without the mud.

I really enjoyed putting people to blogs, I am looking forward to seeing more photos.

UPDATE

27th May 2007

A very nice lunch.

We had Sunday lunch with my now ex employers today it was pure bliss Harry loved it, I must complete the scrap book I have started for them.

20th May 2007

WHERE WE ARE NOW…..

Well the supply work has taken off at last, just finding my feet in nurseries again. Mark is now doing some agency work and moaning about it, its not what hes trained to do apparently……..

Today I have blitzed the play area and I am digging out the dining room table and sorting Harrys room out to plus doing an OU essay, Will update how I did later.

REGRETS

Its been a long time since Harry was eleven weeks old and I went back to work far to long really, too long of wait there I will be a minute, Mummys too busy to play sit still while I cook clean etc, my daughter has been bottom of the pile for so long and I feel I don’t really know her, I really need to put that right now which I will do by doing supply and giving her a chance to grow with a less stressed and more focused mum you just cant do parenthood without guilt.

7th May 2007

Oh dear I have been hiberated, so I though blogging again would be good.

Well I have handed my notice in and my last day is the 24th May, which is great in some aspects and scary in others, scary because, Mark is bearly working at the moment and his industry is so flat he will have to look at agency work soon very soon.

I know I can work at least a dual qualification in secretarial skills and early years education means I am likely to get work, but even if I have to pack apples into boxes, I will still be better off that the three pounds an hour I am earning at the moment.

I am also hoping to work three full days nursery supply or evenings doing general agency work so I get lots of time for Harry. We are falling through days at the moment and I am lothe to admit she is spending time with Daddy in front of the TV while I go look after my mindee I am at the mindees house for thye final three weeks as park of our chimney has collaspsed and work is making it too dusty for baby.

I need with Harry to start introducing stiener in a way that works and is as gentle as possible, she is very highly strung at the mo and does not want me out of her sight, we just need some relaxing time together really.

My basic planning for the first two weeks are as follows.

Monday Sort out harry toy shelves. Do wet on wet painting. Possibility day out though as it’s a bank holiday

Tuesday harry at soft play with nanna

Wednesday Harry with nanna maybe an art and craft type day

Thursday nature walk out door time

Friday out some where for the day.

Following week we are on hols so

Sand and water play, Trip to zoo, physical soft play and swimming
Take play dough jigsaws books crayons etc with me.

Household day to day.

We need to be up by 7.00 and be washed dressed house tidyied washing on etc by 8.30am

8.30am to 11.30am free play then lunch.

Afternoons art craft and outdoor stuff

My working days will be Monday Tuesday and Friday so my in days with H will be Sunday Wednesday Thursday Saturday.

Write up activity notes each day

Weekly Housework

Each day one load of laundry wipe down kitchen and bath declutter before bed Water plants

Monday Harry bedroom floor general Harry room tidy
Tuesday Main bedroom floor general Main room tidy and dust
Wednesday total bathroom clean
Thursday Clean inside of kitchen cupboards and oven
Friday Lounge sort declutter wash floor
Saturday Wash kitchen floor clean out piggy

Important ME TIME

Mediate every day
Swim once a week
Do two hour OU each day

Friday, April 20, 2007

SUDDENLY

Suddenly after I was virtually sure that Harry was fitting to the stiener model much better, she has done a 2.5 hours montessori work cycle every day for the last three spontaously so I will follow it and see where it leads maybe the very free outdoor creative stuff was the lull before the storm.

Oh and our house if falling down or rather the chimney part in the loft is oh arghhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think a house move may be needed yes its that bad.

Thinking Time

Well I have spent the easter weekend thinking about life the universe and everything, well the work life balance anyway.

I will finish minding very soon now I am thinking of eight ish weeks notice to all famillies so June time and I will do some boring mind numbing agency work to counteract the former I will be home edding my little one with a lot more thought now and doing hopefully a Waldorf Course.

Steiner has crept up and bit me on the bum and its all i want to do now (if anyone wants to buy any montessori materials which are almost new feel free to email me) and for Harry at least it works and she has been happier in the last fortnight than I have seen her in a long time.

I know we will have to tighten our belts money wise but Harry is the most important thing and my minding is just not working at all with her because if i am not minding I am paperworking and she needs more time with her mum.

Wish me luck.

Rachel and Harry.

What is everyones view?

I think I may have upset someone on a yahoo home ed group on my view on every child matters and the possible change in home ed regs.

My thinking is that we should be well educated on what may happen and how we get around it so if necessary (heaven forbid) we have to fit the national curriculum excetra into our lives by flexing it to fit us and not the other way round and some one has just bitten my head off telling me its all scarmongering and it wont happen and we are all totally safe, I was only expressing a view what does everyone else think.

Fifteen months on

Well these were my new years resolutions for 2006 did I achieve them.

Me
Hand my notice in erm no one family left owing me £800 still working for the other
Find supply work erm no see above
do three montessori segments a week and graduate by December 2006 still 25 segments left to complete
have some me time each week No
blogg every day No
but spend less unproductive time on internet use the internet to unwind not a good thing
increase my e bay selling erm no
pay off student loan. erm no
Home ED
do at least two external activities a week eg kindermusic and stiener mother and toddler doing one
extend practical life activities yes i have done this plus sensorial and language
spend some time each day in fresh air yes
do some messy activities each week yes
get harry a libary card no
Other than that arrange allotment no
meal plan each week yes
use local meat yes and veg.
I think that is all I can think of

I need to focus on Harry and I now it that whole work life balance again and the feeling that she is not getting enough input as I am too exhusted to it, childminding sensible no may be not, it may work for others but not for me at all.

So help me here those who have a partner that works and home eds full time what do you do if you work, and if you live on one income how do you do it.

Blogger ate it.

Blogger in all its wisdom managed to eat my posts from january, what a pain, but its March now so here we ho.

January

Baby started, Harry decided that a baby is not a good thing as it takes attention away from her, lots of put baby to bed mummy etc etc.

February

One child gave noitice they are moving away so that income down again, I might have to consider supply work again.

March

we have now got back into the montessori swing of things, I have now introduced pouring spooning threading pink tower geometric prsentation tray and the insets for design because harry loves them. she is also learning how to cut up fruit and squeeze juice. We have also reinstated the afternoon nap as she really needs it still after dropping for a month.

We are reading lots of poopy cat and zigby books and the old faborites peepo and the thats not my books.

I really need to spend more time with her as working 40+hours aweek is a killer.
